Information for contributors
Rates of Payment:
The minimum rates paid for contributions to Island are:
- Poems $60 each
- Short stories $100 each
- Essays and reviews $100 per 1000 words.
Guidelines:
- Submissions must be typed with at least 1.5 spacing, preferably on white A4 paper with letter-quality print.
- Please write on only one side of the page, with a wide margin at left and right, and with a name, address and page number on each page.
- Please include a cover sheet detailing the word length of the submission plus all your contact information (phone, email and mailing address).
- Manuscripts must be accompanied by a stamped self-addressed envelope.
- If you need to have your manuscript returned it is vital that your stamped self-addressed envelope is large enough to fit all pages comfortably.
- Electronic submissions cannot be accepted.
- No responsibility can be accepted for the loss or damage of any contribution, although every care is taken.
Word Length:
- Poems may be any length, though poems over 2 pages in length are probably less likely to be published.
- Short fiction should be 2500 words or less.
- Nonfiction should be 2000-3000 words, though the editor may accept slightly longer works after consultation.
