Ten women write –
the sound of pens on paper
silkworms in a shoebox
munching mulberry leaves.
How long will it be
before whispering words
settle into silence
spinning their cocoons?
How much longer still
until they chew
through golden silk
to emerge as white-moth poems?
ROBYN MATHISON was born in Narrandera, NSW, in
1938 and has lived in Hobart since the beginning of 1975.
Her poems and stories have been published widely in journals
and anthologies in Australia and overseas.
